Fire Brigade´s House/ Cistercian Abbey Brewery

Římská 2135/45 , Praha 2

This large functionalist palace was built as Prague’s Czech Fire Brigade Association headquarters. The building was due to be completed on the anniversary of the founding of the Republic but was not officially approved until 1929. At the time of its completion, it was one of the highest residential buildings in the city and was described by the contemporary press as Prague’s first skyscraper. The nine-story central tower was designed to resemble a fire brigade bell tower. The original underground cinema hall was later converted into the U Hasičů Theatre. The OSSEGG mini-brewery is located on the ground floor of the palace. Its concept follows the tradition of the Osek Monastery brewery.
