The former coal storage room from the 1930s, located in one of the campus courtyards, had long stood unused. It was stripped back to its industrial foundations and transformed into a welcoming space for small lectures, informal gatherings, and student activities. Its standout features include original concrete pillars and a new timber insert. The space retains its industrial character while being adapted to meet the needs of today’s academic and cultural community. Located underground, the room benefits from indirect lighting, creating a more intimate atmosphere. In 2020, Uhelna was nominated for the Czech Architecture Award for its successful adaptive reuse.
