Kafkárna is a 100-year-old sculptor’s studio originally created for Bohumil Kafka (1878–1942) and his monumental works, especially the statue of Jan Žižka on Prague’s Vítkov hill. The wooden structure, initially built as a temporary building, remains almost in its original condition, with minor modifications made in the 1950s when a model for Stalin’s monument in Letná was created here. During the normalization period, stonemasons worked in Kafkárna. After 1989, Kurt Gebauer acquired the studio for UMPRUM (Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design), and it is mainly used by sculpture students. The sculpture studio gradually started opening the space to the public, offering a program blending ecology and art.
