ZSOLT KÁCSOR kniha Cikánský Mojžíš

The Gypsy Moses is a unique literary project in contemporary Hungarian fiction. Its protagonist is a Roma criminal and drug addict. Under the influence of hallucinogens and religious texts, he becomes convinced that he is a new Moses and incites a prison uprising with the goal of leading the Hungarian Roma back to their ancestral homeland in India. The novel is a masterful parody of messianic worldviews promoted by self-proclaimed prophets, barroom philosophers, and delusional cult leaders. At the same time, it is an inverted heroic epic—a desperate cry for help on behalf of all minorities and people on the margins of society.
