Písecká Gate

K Brusce 5/208, Hradčany

Písecká Gate is a significant Baroque monument from the 18th century, built as part of the Marian fortifications by architect Kryštof Dientzenhofer (1655–1722). When it was decided in 1860 to dismantle the fortifications, Písecká Gate was preserved, but the surrounding defensive structures were demolished. Today, Písecká Gate is one of only four remaining gates from Prague’s early modern fortification system. The other three — Táborská, Leopoldova, and Chotkova (also known as Cihelná) — are located within the Vyšehrad complex. Písecká Gate has undergone two major renovations and now serves as a cultural centre with a café. It hosts exhibitions, concerts, social events, weddings, lectures, Easter and Christmas celebrations, and activities for children and seniors.
