Love Me Tender is a radical work depicting the search for a new identity through loss and a liberating personal transformation. It follows an unnamed protagonist who leaves behind her family, career, high income, and lifestyle to dedicate herself to writing and a noncommittal series of relationships with women. During a custody battle over her son, she faces judgment and pressure, including homophobic attacks from her ex-husband. Her narrative style—cold and concise, inspired by French legal language—maintains its distance whether describing dramatic events or reflecting on unconventional forms of love and family.

Constance Debré (*1972) worked for years as a criminal lawyer and collaborated with the Legislative Commission of the French National Assembly. In 2015, she left her legal career, came out, and devoted herself fully to writing. Love Me Tender (2019) forms a loose trilogy with her earlier novels Playboy (2017) and Nom (Name, 2022), which established her as a significant literary voice in Paris.
